Search cameras - CAM / TIC / RD90

Used by Urban Search And Rescue teams worldwide following natural disasters (earthquakes, storms, etc.) or other major urban incidents (gas explosions, attacks, etc.), search cameras help visually locate buried victims trapped under rubble or in confined spaces which cannot be accessed by rescuers.

An initial victim detection and location phase is carried out by dog sniffer teams and Urban Search And Rescue teams using listening devices (geostereophones equipped with seismic sensors or life detectors equipped with UWB radar sensors).
Once the victims are detected and located, a second phase involves visually verifying that it is a human with search and rescue cameras. Equipped with a microphone/speaker module, they can also be used to communicate with the victim to determine their needs in terms of assistance and rescue.

Crucial search equipment for rescue teams, USAR search cameras (also called “exploration cameras”, “endoscopic cameras” and “inspection cameras”) are appreciated for their image quality, strength and ease of use.

This search and rescue (SAR) equipment makes it quicker to rescue victims, and are an integral part of SAR GOP (General Operating Procedures).

WHAT IS A SEARCH CAMERA?

A search camera is a miniature camera (47 mm in diameter for LEADER models) designed to slide into very narrow spaces such as cracks, gaps and standard 51 mm holes drilled by operational SAR teams to inspect behind a wall or inside a confined space.

The USAR search camera is connected to a control box with an extra-large colour screen to inspect the area/confined space and identify potential victims.

They can also be used to communicate with the victim to determine their condition and take appropriate action.

HOW IS A SEARCH CAMERA USED?

The search camera is designed to be used “anywhere you cannot see”.
For this purpose, it can be fastened to two mounts:

  • EXTENDIBLE TELESCOPIC 3.5 M CARBON FIBRE POLE VERSION:
LEADER search cams are most often used in their telescopic pole version, which can be extended to 3.5 metres in length (CAM and TIC peripheral). Equipped with a pole, the search and rescue camera can inspect:
    • Deep, difficult-to-access confined spaces by simply inserting the camera through a gap/hole.
    • Inaccessible areas at height by inserting a camera through a window or gap in the wall,
    • Behind walls. The camera (47 mm in diameter) is inserted into a hole (with a standard diameter of 51 mm) which has been previously drilled by rescue teams (using a corer or drill) to view the cavity where the victim is located.

  • CABLE REEL VERSION:
Reel-mounted cable versions (CAM, TIC and RD90 peripheral with 90-metre or 180-metre reel option) are also available.
Equipped with a 90-metre or 180-metre cable (2 x 90-metre), the search camera is used to inspect very deep areas such as cavities, crevasses, pipes, very deep wells in very damp or underwater environments.

3 COMPLEMENTARY SEARCH CAMERAS TO COVER VARIOUS SITUATIONS!

/ ! \ Remember that these cameras can also be used for other purposes, such as inspecting pipes, chimneys, excavations, for monitoring and maintaining technical equipment, inspecting shipments (customs service), archaeological research, etc... / ! \

CAM PERIPHERAL: COLOUR SEARCH CAMERA FOR VISUAL SEARCH AND COMMUNICATION WITH THE VICTIM

APPLICATIONS:

The CAM colour search camera was designed to visually inspect inaccessible/confined, difficult-to-access spaces. Once the victim is located, it is then possible to communicate with them thanks to the microphone and speaker built into the camera head to determine their needs in terms of assistance.

FEATURES:

A CAMERA HEAD SPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR DIFFICULT ENVIRONMENTS:

The strong camera hinge has a shock absorber and the camera is protected with a scratchproof sapphire lens. Once fitted with specific plugs, the camera head becomes waterproof to a depth of 2 metres, allowing searches in very damp or underwater environments.

A CAMERA HEAD FOR RAPID AND EFFICIENT SEARCHES:

The camera head can be rotated/tilted 170° (85° left, 85° right) for a 260° field of vision, offering a rapid view of almost an entire area to be explored.

The camera head also has 6 ultra-powerful LEDs (adjustable lighting with 8 brightness levels) to light up the zone as effectively as possible for an improved overview of the situation.

Fitted with a microphone and speaker, the camera head can be used to communicate with the victim to determine their needs in terms of assistance.

FASTENING MOUNTS COMPATIBLE WITH THE COLOUR SEARCH CAMERA (CAM)

The CAM colour camera head can be fastened to several mounts depending on operational requirements:

  • 3.7 m telescopic pole (1.2 m folded): Ultra-lightweight, it is made of carbon fibre for an optimal weight/strength ratio (1.7 kg without the camera)!
  • A 25-metre cable
  • A 90-metre reel-mounted cable: useful for inspecting wells or crevasses or any other inaccessible space.
  • Two 90-metre reel-mounted cables for a total length of 180 metres: useful for inspections in very deep wells or crevasses or any other inaccessible space.

COMPATIBLE CONTROL BOXES

The CAM life locator search camera can be connected to two types of control box: MONO-APP and MULTI-APP.

TIC PERIPHERAL: THERMAL IMAGING SEARCH CAMERA TO LOCATE VICTIMS BY DETECTING HOTSPOTS AND COMMUNICATE WITH THEM

APPLICATIONS:

The TIC thermal imaging search cam was designed to locate victims by detecting hotspots (the heat of a victim’s body). The thermal imaging search camera supplements and accelerates searches to focus on hotspots and contrasts in temperature to find victims or their heat signature in dark confined spaces, dusty environments, smoky areas, etc. Fitted with a microphone and speaker, the camera head can be used to communicate with the victim to determine their needs in terms of assistance.

FEATURES:

A THERMAL IMAGING CAMERA HEAD SPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR DIFFICULT ENVIRONMENTS:

The strong camera hinge has a shock absorber and the camera’s infrared module is protected with a germanium window. Once fitted with specific plugs, the camera head becomes waterproof to a depth of 2 metres, allowing searches in very damp or underwater environments.

A CAMERA HEAD FOR RAPID AND EFFICIENT SEARCHES:

With a 160x120 pixel resolution sensor, the TIC thermal imaging search camera can detect the presence of a body (temperatures detected from 0 to 120°C).

3 complementary colour modes are available to effectively locate a body: Multicolour, Hot black and Hot white.

The use of several colour modes allows situations to be analysed with more precision. Changing colour modes highlights other elements and makes it easier to understand the situation.

The camera head can be rotated/tilted 170° (85° left, 85° right) for a 226° field of vision, offering a rapid view of almost an entire area to be explored.

Fitted with a microphone and speaker, the camera head can be used to communicate with the victim to determine their needs in terms of assistance.

FASTENING MOUNTS COMPATIBLE WITH THE THERMAL IMAGING SEARCH CAMERA (TIC)

The TIC thermal imaging camera head can be fastened to several mounts depending on operational requirements:

  • 3.7 m telescopic pole (1.2 m folded): Ultra-lightweight, it is made of carbon fibre for an optimal weight/strength ratio (1.7 kg without the camera)!
  • A 25-metre cable
  • A 90-metre reel-mounted cable: useful for inspecting wells or crevasses or any other inaccessible space.
  • Two 90-metre reel-mounted cables for a total length of 180 metres: useful for inspections in very deep wells or crevasses or any other inaccessible space.

COMPATIBLE CONTROL BOX

The TIC thermal imaging life locator search camera is compatible with the MULTI-APP control box only.
