WASP Crowned Winners At Northern Powerhouse Export Awards

Northern Powerhouse Export Awards

WASP has been crowned ‘New to Export’ winners at the Northern Powerhouse Exports Awards 2019.

The highly prestigious award is a result of an incredible 18 months which has seen the WASP exported to 17 countries around the world.

WASP Managing Director Matt Keogh was presented with the winner’s trophy at a star-studded celebration at the National Railway Museum in York.

Matt said:
“It is amazing, a very proud moment for me and the team behind getting WASP to where it is now.
This started as a dream, an idea and to now see the WASP being used by firefighters and emergency service personnel around the world is incredible.
It is being used almost daily to save peoples lives and the interest in the product has been immense.
We are already in 17 countries around the world and we are talking to many more so the future is exciting.
To have all of the hard work recognised, and to win an award like this, makes it all worthwhile. I’m super proud.”

The Leader WASP, or Warning Alarm for Stability Protection, was designed to protect emergency service personnel working in collapsed structures.

It detects movement from between 0.1° to 2.6° or vibration from 0.5hz to 100hz and alerts workers with an audible and visual alarm.

The WASP has multiple uses and has been deployed at hundreds of incidents from RTCs, explosions, trench rescues and many more and exported around the world.

It was deployed by London Fire Brigade in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower tragedy to protect personnel.

The PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Export Awards is held in association with HSBC and the Department for International Trade.

Winners were chosen by the judging panel comprising of Frans Calje, Chief Executive of PD Ports, Mark Robson the Head of the DIT in the Yorkshire and Humber region, International Trade Director Tim Bailey and Karen Walker, Senior International Trade Director for HSBC in West Yorkshire.

They were so impressed by WASP and the NHS Northumbria International Alliance, they broke with tradition and selected both as winners of the New To Export Of The Year Award.
